Mental Health

In any given year it is estimated that 1 in 5 Canadians will experience a mental health problem or illness. Research shows that those with chronic pain are four times more likely to have depression or anxiety than those that are pain free. Untreated, mental health issues can have a significant impact personally, socially, and vocationally.

There is hope, at Actum Health we are experienced in treating those with:

  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
  • Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder (ADHD)
  • Adjustment disorder
  • Substance use

We have program streams specific to these mental health diagnoses to promote function, active coping and internal resilience. Your program will be specifically tailored to you and your needs.

Have you been diagnosed with a mental health condition, or are you struggling with your mental health? You are not alone. All too often there is a fear of stigma surrounding mental health which prevents people from reaching out for support. Mental health issues can affect anyone, regardless of age, gender, culture, or income level, and they do not reflect one’s strength as a person. Most importantly, mental health issues are treatable, and change is possible with the right support. How can we help at Actum Health? Our programs are customised to your needs, and our Psychologists and Counsellors have extensive experience, and their clinical toolkits include:
  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (TF-CBT)
  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
  • Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT) strategies
  • Exposure therapy to treat anxiety, phobias, and PTSD
  • Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing (EMDR)
  • Motivational therapies and motivational enhancement therapies
Within our Mental Health treatment streams, we have Physical Therapists and Occupational Therapists to support behavioural activation goals (exercise/conditioning program, routine building, re-engagement with daily activities, and support for graded exposures in the community), while our Physicians/Pharmacist can address any medication or medical issues.
Mental health conditions are increasing annually, and account for approximately 30% of short- and long-term disability claims (data from the Mental Health Commission of Canada report in 2013 ). They cost the Canadian economy at least $50 billion dollars per year. The cost to the individual experiencing a mental health issue, and the impact on their family, friends and community can be devastating. At Actum Health we are committed to evidence-based modalities and building resiliency in your client. With a biopsychosocial approach, our team will deliver behavioral and functional activation to make meaningful change for your client. Our mental health clinicians have a diverse treatment portfolio including:
  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (TF-CBT)
  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
  • Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT) strategies
  • Exposure therapy to treat anxiety, phobias, and PTSD
  • Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing (EMDR)
  • Motivational therapies and motivational enhancement therapies
In addition, our mental health programming includes a diverse team of clinicians that are occupationally and functionally focused, and work collaboratively with the Counselling/Psychology team to deliver meaningful and measurable change. Services are a combination of individual sessions and group therapy and can be delivered both in clinic and via Telehealth; based on the interdisciplinary assessment of your client.
