Addictions

Like persistent (chronic) pain, substance use disorder is a chronic disease. Chronic pain and addiction can occur concurrently, and both must be treated to support a durable recovery. Actum has outpatient addiction streams to address substance use, support stabilization, and relapse prevention. Our treatment philosophy is abstinence based. Actum Heath also offers outpatient transitional services for those clients transitioning from inpatient care.

Daily treatment includes individual and group sessions, education, and behavioural activation. The treatment team includes our Addictions Physician, Psychologists, Occupational Therapists, Pharmacist, and Physical Therapists.

Finding the right treatment program for your needs can be challenging. Our comprehensive assessment will allow us to tailor our services to your specific needs. We understand that addiction is a complex and very personal experience, and our clinicians are aware of the challenges that you face. Our outpatient addictions programming is structured and includes both individual and group therapy sessions. You will have regular sessions with our Addictions Physician, and at times urine drug screens will be completed. Our Addiction Psychologist will focus on sobriety and long-term relapse prevention. Tailored to you, interventions may include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, mindfulness-based relapse prevention, family support, motivational enhancement therapy, and some alternative therapies.
Our addiction services are available in two tiers that fulfil the American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) levels 2.1 (intensive outpatient services) and 2.5 (equal to partial hospitalisation services). Services are directed by our Addictions Physician and if needed, paired with our Addictions Psychiatrist and are based on your clients needs. The structured programming includes individual and group treatment sessions, and behavioral/functional activation. Your client will have regular medical follow-up, periodic urine drug screens or other related laboratory investigations as needed. Interventions may include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Mindfulness-based Relapse Prevention, Mindfulness¬ based Stress Reduction, family support, motivational enhancement therapy, and alternative therapies. Programming is typically 8-12 weeks in duration but is dependant on the needs and presentation of each client. Feel free to contact our Care Coordinator to discuss your client, as we are happy to provide consultation on program suitability.
